Busy?

I haven't posted anything new on my site. I haven't updated it for quite a while. No, it's not because of the sporadic internet connection. The passion to write never ceases to captivate me but the interest momentarily wanes.
I'm busy playing mother to our borrowed child, I'm juggling my time among different priorities: my masters, work, prime-time kapamilya marathon, QT with my husband and visit to my family in Mabolo and the list of priorities go on.

I can't seem to bring myself to write anything worth reading. So for now, I'm signing off. For those who miss my blogs, sorry to disappoint you. But before you know it, I'd be constantly updating my site again. Soon my heart will burn with fervor to write and bring to date my site with seemingly obsessive compulsion to post anything relatively sensible.

I can't remember the exact date of my last post. I've been receiving queries from friends through email as to why I wasn't blogging anymore. Well, blame it on Globe. We were without internet connection for three freaking weeks. Every single day, half of my family members called Globe, demanding for an explanation, urging them to fix the issue. We were given promises and tons of rubbish explanations. I heard my husband (a tech support agent) used most of his callers' phrase in talking to Globe's rep, he' s been doing this for more than four years, he knew exactly the kind of crap they were saying.

The connection problem was a big loss for my blogging business. I could've doubled my current dollar earning by now. Anyway, no use crying over spilled milk. I can't promise everyone that I'm back for good, who knows Globe might play some tricks on us again, like giving us a connection for a few hours and gone the next hour. <br style="font-family: trebuchet ms;

History 101

I'm a little drawn off to write anything. I was on leave from work Friday and Monday, weekends are my restdays. I was away for the weekend. When I got back in the office, three of my colleagues asked me if there was anything new on my site. Well, I owe to write something, quick.

Today's Memorial Day in the US, call volume on US holidays is always low. My colorful post-it is filled with my to-do list. But I can spare enough time to bring you to where I went over the weekend.

My husband's maternal kin is from Sogod, Leyte. That was where we spent the weekend. Leyte is located in the Eastern Visayas region, we learned in our Sibika at Kultura lessons back in elementary that Tacloban City is the capital of Leyte. The first mass in the Philippines was known to be held in Southern Leyte, the islet called Limasawa. But Limasawa was never found in the account of Magellan's voyage.

We spent the entire day on the road, an hour or two-drive to get to our destinations. The Chronicles of Narnia is a children's classic tale written by C.S. Most BreadTalk shops are positioned in the main entrances of shopping malls or so I heard. When we came in the store the breads greeted me with the smell of freshly baked goodies. I was really amazed with the lighting scheme, the open-kitchen set up; my eyes...

Everyone wants to escape the poverty that grips this country.

I’ve read so many books, most are American setting, and I grow up wanting to visit the places I’ve read about. Sometimes I felt that I’ve been to those places. Visit, because I never dreamt of living in another country permanently. Now that I’m a grown woman, I realized that wherever we go, no matter how successful we are in another country, no matter how good we try to imitate another country’s accent. We would always be a second class citizen in a foreign land. No matter how life sucks here, I couldn’t bring myself to leave this co...

The Master Storyteller

John Grisham invokes a love or hate reaction among readers. I'm a big fan of John Grisham, I've read 17 of his books. I'm a voracious reader but I only bought few books that are brand new, not counting the textbooks I used in school. I'm a believer of BOOKSALE. The brand new books I own are mostly given by friends. On Christmas I always put a particular book on my wish list. I've grown tired seeing my friends getting disappointed when they received an oversized shirt or something they simply don't like. I always enlist books on my christmas wishes.

Going back to John Grisham, He's a gifted and master storyteller. His books were mostly high-tension legal thriller. It was always about a brilliant lawyer, manipulating money; his books always end with the lead character fleeing to a paradise like Mexico or the Carribean.

I picked out a John Grisham book in BookSale, I contemplated for a while, when I was certain I haven't read it yet, I went to the counter and paid for it. I always get...

When Love Begins vs Iron Man

Since my parents introduced me to the four-walled classrooms, I've learned to appreciate weekends and dread Mondays. I always love the word Friday, it always means fun.

Last Friday night was about movies. Janice and I wanted to watch the locally produced movie "When Love Begins," stars Aga Muhlach and Anne Curtis. While the rest of the family opted "Iron Man." My husband was torn between watching a Tagalog movie with me, which by the way doesn't elicit much of his interest and watching a plot he always prefers like Iron Man. He'd been watching the Iron Man cartoon way back. When I convinced him that I'd do fine without him, smiles were all over his face.

It's not that Aga Muhlach makes my heart flutters with his bedimpled smile, it was Anne Curtis' gorgeous face, a beauty that could put the goddesses to shame, "her bikini-worthy body" and her pretty beach outfits had me squirming in my seat with envy, appealled to me more than Aga's cutest chuckles.

Five years ago, you couldn't drag...

Payday Syndrome

The "payday-to-payday syndrome," not everyone experiences it but everyone's aware of the problem. It's all about the money. It's like a smoldering rod that you can't hold it in your hand for long. Living from one payday to another. Waking up one day, asking oneself, "where did my money go?" The payday mentality leaves you with very narrow breathing space for little surprises or unexpected expenses, worst it leaves you with nothing. No back up.

It's payday again, everyone rushes to the mall, dine out, shop, splurge, buy the must-haves, pay debts, pig-out,celebrate, drinking session, running to the nearest barstop, always rationalizing that one needs to treat oneself with something pretty or a fancy dinner - a motivatiion as others try to coat it sweelty.

Bottom line is - no savings. Again, living from payday-to-payday. I wouldn't say that I wasn't a victim of this. But as I mature and my responsibilities elevate, I learn to understand money more and gained an enormous knowledge abou...
